Sawing and Sealing Joints in Bituminous Pavements to Control Cracking

Status:  Active
Project Start Date:  No Date

Summary:

This research will review and evaluate the practice of saw-and-seal (the practice of sawing joints in an asphalt pavement and sealing them with a sealant) and should help local agencies answer some practical questions: How saw-and-seal compares to the use of modified PG asphalts? If the saw-and-seal process is used, what is the best practice? Why are saw-and-seal cracks more susceptible to “cupping” versus other transverse cracks?
