Field Implementation, Testing, and Refinement of Density Based Coordinated Ramp Control Strategy Status: CompleteReport Date: 06/30/2015 Summary: Investigators compared the effectiveness in the field of MnDOT's Stratified Zone Metering ramp metering algorithm with that of a density-based strategy developed at the University of Minnesota Duluth, the UMD KAdaptive algorithm. Results showed the UMD algorithm to be superior to the older SZM algorithm for managing traffic flow and ramp meter queues. Consequently, MnDOT implemented the UMD algorithm on its ramp meters in 2014. Final Deliverables: Field Implementation, Testing, and Refinement of Density Based Coordinated Ramp Control Strategy (Report #2015-37) Optimizing Traffic Flow on Twin Cities Freeways (Research Summary) Related Materials: Related Research:
