Development of a Road Condition Recovery Time Estimation System for Winter Snow Events Status: CompleteReport Date: 01/30/2018 Summary: Researchers further developed a system that uses data from existing traffic control infrastructure and state weather stations combined with complex computer algorithms to estimate when road conditions have recovered from a snow event. The integrated computer system will give dispatchers and supervisors a "big picture" view of traffic flow on any roadway during snow clearing operations, allowing them to direct more plows where they are most needed. The system will estimate normal condition regain time, relieving snowplow operators of the extra task of determining when roads have recovered.
