Investigating Inductive Loop Signature Technology for Statewide Vehicle Classification Counts Status: CompleteReport Date: 11/14/2018 Summary: Researchers used existing inductive loop installations in Minnesota to evaluate using the technology for vehicle classification. Results fell short of the success of a U.S. DOT study in California, but still indicate that inductive loops may be effective at identifying and classifying individual vehicles as they pass. Further research will be necessary to better calibrate the approach and hardware for use in Minnesota.
