Balanced Design of Asphalt Mixtures Status: CompleteReport Date: 06/28/2018 Summary: Researchers developed and tested a complementary approach to current volumetric asphalt mixture design and validation. In the balanced mix design (BMD) process, volumetrically designed asphalt pavement mixtures undergo performance testing to evaluate and optimize binder content for resistance to cracking and rutting. BMD requires further research in Minnesota, but it offers a new approach to designing mixes for durable, high-performing and cost-effective asphalt pavements.
