In-Vehicle Work Zone Messages Status: CompleteReport Date: 06/13/2017 Summary: A controlled simulated study determined the effectiveness of in-vehicle messages delivered through smartphones to alert drivers about upcoming work zone construction. The key findings: Smartphone messages did not distract drivers, and in some instances, driver performance improved. The location of the smartphone did not hinder driver performance, providing the message included an audio component. In-vehicle messages also were easier for drivers to comprehend and remember.
