NRRA: Experimental and Computational Investigations of High-Density Asphalt Mixtures Status: CompleteReport Date: 10/15/2019 Summary: The Indiana Department of Transportation has deployed a high-density asphalt pavement mixture that achieves its target 5 percent air void compaction in the field. Researchers sought to develop a similar mixture with Minnesota aggregates. In this study, they developed a sophisticated model for high-density mixtures and calibrated it with data from previous studies of 5 percent mixes. The research team then conducted tests on three Minnesota high-density mixtures, including two from MnROAD test cells, to further refine the model and to evaluate mixtures. A Phase II study will develop multiple mix designs for Minnesota applications.
