Evaluation of Roundabout Crash Rates and EffectivenessStatus: CompleteReport Date: 03/05/2026 Summary: The purpose of this project was to provide guidance to support identification and selection of roundabout intersection treatments. The guidebook focuses on: • Summarizing the key characteristics of common roundabout types; • Describing safety and operational performance considerations; • Providing decision trees that can be applied before detailed operational modeling; and • Describing when Intersection Control Evaluation (ICE) and Roundabout Justification Reports (RJR) are needed. A related brochure summarizes the improved safety at roundabouts. Final Deliverables: Roundabout Design and Selection Guide (Guidebook #2026RIC07) Roundabouts Safer for all Travellers (Fact Sheet #2026RIC07B) Related Materials: Related Research: Project Personnel: Principal Investigator: Renae Kuehl Technical Liaison: Matt Wegwerth Project Coordinator: Briah Carlson Panel Members: Chad Hausman - Wright County Derek Leuer - Traffic Engineering Dillon Dombrovski - City of Rochester Girma Feyissa - State Aid for Local Transp Greg Kimman - City of Little Falls JinYeene Neumann - Carlton County Transportation Department Joe Gustafson - Washington County Public Works - Engineer Katelyn Vue - Minnesota Daily, University of Minnesota Kenneth Johnson - Traffic Engineering Mark Vizecky - State Aid for Local Transp Ryan Thilges - Blue Earth County Shannon Grabow - Victor Lund - St. Louis County Public Works - Engineer
