Patching Asphalt Best PracticesStatus: CompleteReport Date: 10/09/2025 Summary: Asphalt patching remains the most widely used method for pothole repair. While various technical resources are available, most workers still learn how to patch in the field. Additionally, numerous proprietary patching mixes have been introduced over the years, and local agencies are seeking information about their effectiveness. This study aims to update and build upon earlier LRRB resources by surveying local agencies to understand current patching practices, compare product performance, and summarize which materials and methods work best under various conditions. Key focus areas include: guidance on asphalt patching; performance information on proprietary patching products; a summary of the best patching practices from Minnesota local agencies; and a training and education video.
