Pavement Marking Retroreflectivity

Status:  Active
Project Start Date:  07/31/2023

Summary:

To reduce highway fatalities after dark, the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) mandated a new minimum standard for pavement marking retro-reflectivity effective September 6, 2022. The rule requires state and local agencies or officials to implement a method within four years for maintaining pavement marking retroreflectivity at or above minimum levels. The purpose of this study is to review and summarize the requirements, dates and procedures and communicate them to local agencies throughout Minnesota.
