Fleet - Life CycleStatus: CompleteProject Start Date: 06/13/2023 Summary: Public agencies in Minnesota that manage approximately 7,500 fleet vehicles and must balance operations, safety, productivity, costs and asset preservation. As new technologies such as electric vehicles become available, regulations change and public expectations evolve, decisions about when to lease, purchase or replace vehicles and equipment are becoming increasingly complex. To support these decisions, this project developed a spreadsheet tool that helps local agencies evaluate potential replacement windows by analyzing ownership and operating costs. Tool results provide transparent, quantifiable and defensible evidence to support fleet management decisions, including whether to lease or purchase equipment and when to retire assets based on current conditions.
