Residential Roadway Width - Best Practices

Status:  Complete
Report Date:  09/15/2025

Summary:

As the transportation network continues to evolve, change, and adapt, local agencies are looking for best practices regarding residential roadway design. THis study reviews current Minnesota design standards (specifically, the State Aid Design Standards), and compares them to other design standards being used nationally, to develop a suggested best practice for residential roadway width. MnDOT has published both an interactive PDF version that could not be made accessible, and an accessible version in a conventional format.
