Assessing the Effectiveness of Potassium Acetate to Control Snow and Ice on Minnesota Highways Status: CompleteReport Date: 07/06/2020 Summary: This project proposes to expand and evaluate the use of Potassium Acetate in lieu of Sodium Chloride as the primary deicing chemical used in the Duluth Subarea for winter season 2018-2019. The goals and objectives are to: -Evaluate potassium acetate as an alternative de-icing chemical for use in snow and ice operations to reduce overall chloride use. - Establish application guidelines. - Quantify equipment and material requirements and costs.
