Safety: Developing Tools to Address Behavioral Factors

Summary:

The Local Road Research Board and MnDOT have done numerous studies on driver safety and pedestrian safety. Additionally, several cities have worked cooperatively with their law enforcement to develop and implement pedestrian safety campaigns. The focus of this study will be to review and synthesize all the previous research, conduct a survey of local agencies to understand strategies they have had success with and develop two deliverables: A synthesis on successfully implemented pedestrian and bicycle focused safety strategies and outreach materials to help the public and elected officials understand how roadway design and the engineered features of a roadway can impact driver/vehicular behavior.
