Developing Salt-Tolerant Sod Mixtures for Use as Roadside Turf in MinnesotaStatus: CompleteReport Date: 12/23/2014 Summary: In response to failed roadside grass plantings due to salt from winter maintenance and other stresses, tests of 75 individual cultivars of turfgrass and 51 different mixtures were used to identify salt-tolerant grasses that can produce sod suitable for roadside installation. This research was used to develop MNST-12, a turfgrass mixture of predominantly fine fescue species, which MnDOT has specified for roadsides.
