Protocols and Criteria for Acoustic Emission Monitoring of Fracture-Critical Steel Bridges Status: CompleteReport Date: 06/30/2015 Summary: Researchers tested and optimized an acoustic emission monitoring system to sense cracking in fracture-critical steel bridges by using it to collect data on the Cedar Avenue Bridge in Burnsville, Minnesota. Results showed that although processing acoustic emission data is a complex task, acoustic emission systems hold promise for identifying fractures in steel bridges, including small cracks.
