Evaluating the Performance of CIR Mixtures with Reduced Binder ContentStatus: CompleteReport Date: 11/26/2019 Summary: Researchers examined the performance testing implications of a common practice in the field on especially hot days: reducing the amount of binder in mixtures to improve the workability of cold in-place recycling pavements. Examinations of mixtures held at room temperature and higher temperatures determined that when binder levels are reduced from the standard of 2.5 to 3 percent of volume at room temperature to 1.75 percent of volume at 110 degrees Fahrenheit, and 1.5 percent at 125 degrees, mixes are more workable, compaction improves and tested mixture performance does not diminish significantly.
