Summary:

Geogrid, a synthetic material with a triangular or square pattern, can be inserted between the layers of asphalt pavement during construction to increase the strength and durability of the finished road. After rigorously testing geogrid materials, researchers provided objective data on geogrids’ short- and long-term performance and demonstrated that the material’s upfront cost may be worthwhile given the benefits it provides over the life of the pavement.
