Stakeholder Attitudes, Knowledge and Engagement in Local Road Systems Planning Decision-MakingStatus: CompleteReport Date: 10/11/2017 Summary: Communication concepts such as funding for local road systems is an ongoing challenge that public works managers face when engaging with stakeholders, policymakers and the public. Through survey research and case studies of four Minnesota local jurisdictions, the research team found that early and frequent multimedia outreach, as well as inclusion of stakeholders in decision making, promotes citizen engagement and increases long-term satisfaction with project outcomes. Clear expectations, descriptions and explanations build public trust in the agency.
