Salt Brine Blending to Optimize Deicing and Anti-Icing Performance and Cost Effectiveness Phase III Status: CompleteReport Date: 12/19/2017 Summary: Investigators continued work begun in Phase II of this project to evaluate deicer performance and effectiveness. Results confirm that truck traffic significantly improves deicer performance, deicers perform poorly below 10 degrees Fahrenheit unless pavement is in sunlight, and chloride pollution is spread more by traffic spray and snowplow throw than by storm runoff.
