Evaluation of the Effect of MnPASS Lane Design on Mobility and SafetyStatus: CompleteReport Date: 07/01/2014 Summary: Researchers analyzed the safety and mobility of MnDOT's current HOT lanes on I-35W (where vehicles can enter the HOT lane at almost any point) and I-394 (where entry to the HOT lane is much more restricted). Both designs are effective in appropriate circumstances; a general design principle may be to start with open access and add restrictions as needed to protect safety and mobility. This project also developed tools to help design planned future HOT lanes.
