Subgrade Stabilization ME Properties Evaluation and ImplementationStatus: CompleteReport Date: 06/25/2012 Summary: Researchers investigated methods and materials for stabilizing pavement subgrades to establish mechanistic empirical design parameters for the resilient modulus of stabilized roads. Results showed that there is a large variability in the degree to which stabilization improves the strength and stiffness of subgrade materials. Consequently, researchers could not identify one factor of improvement for a given combination of stabilization material and method. Instead they recommended that a procedure be followed on a project-by-project basis to identify an appropriate stiffness resistance factor during the course of project predesign and design. By collecting data on project-specific improvement factors, MnDOT will eventually be able to develop more general improvement factors.
