Report Date:  04/27/2023

Summary:

Reinforcing or repairing backslopes on highways is a difficult problem. Soil nailing (which involves placing closely spaced grouted steel bars into a slope or excavation to reinforce the soil) is one technique that can be used to reinforce and strengthen existing ground. This RIS explores the concept of soil nailing. It includes information on soil nailing technology, basic soil wall elements, types of soil nail walls, general applications, major construction considerations, and suitable locations and geographical conditions, as well as basic costs.
