Integrate RTMC Vehicle Classification into the Current Detector Volume Data

Summary:

This study aims to enable MnDOT to obtain vehicle classification and traffic volume data for high-volume roadways without the use of road tubes or manual counts, which are dangerous, expensive and time-consuming. Researchers are developing a protocol to extract existing vehicle-length data (collected by radar systems and certain loop detectors) from an existing server at the Regional Transportation Management Center (RTMC) and integrate the data into a traffic volume database. A software tool will then be developed to retrieve classification data and create a report.
