Framework and Guidelines for the Development of a Twin Cities Mesoscopic DTA ModelStatus: CompleteReport Date: 04/30/2017 Summary: MnDOT is interested in developing a mesoscopic dynamic traffic model for the Twin Cities. Mesoscopic models can provide more accurate predictions of construction impacts than macroscopic models like the Twin Cities Regional Travel Demand Forecasting Model. They can also cover a wider area than microscopic models that simulate vehicle behavior but are only feasible at the corridor level due to data needs. Researchers interviewed MnDOT and vendor stakeholders to identify simulation needs, and reviewed the capabilities of currently available simulation software packages to meet these needs.
