Feasibility of Using 511MN to Notify the Public of Local Road and Bridge ClosuresStatus: ActiveProject Start Date: 05/21/2025Subscribe for Updates Summary: Minnesota cities and counties regularly implement road and bridge closures that significantly affect regional travel, yet this information is inconsistently available through MnDOT’s 511MN and third-party navigation platforms. While 511MN has established a high level of public trust, data accuracy, staffing, and governance remain key barriers to incorporating local agency information. This research project will define a scalable framework for local agencies to provide closure, detour, and anticipated construction information through a 511MN-adjacent or companion system without increasing MnDOT operational burden. The study will evaluate peer models, establish data and governance requirements, assess staffing and cost needs, and recommend implementation pathways and pilot concepts for future deployment.
