Managing Modern Agricultural Loads on Local BridgesStatus: CompleteReport Date: 02/13/2026 Summary: Historically, implements of husbandry (IoH) were exempt from load postings of local roadways; however, this is no longer the case (MN Statutes 169.88 and 169.801). This is a significant concern because it is important to ensure the safety of all local bridges. There are approximately 15,000 local bridges in Minnesota of which approximately 2,500 see IOH vehicles. Statewide load rating evaluations using Tier I IoH vehicles is currently in progress by State Aid Bridge. The next phase of load rating IoH vehicles involves identifying Tier II and III to determine their current usage patterns and geographic distribution across Minnesota. The focus of this project and content of this report summarizes: - IoH bridge postings – nationally and within Minnesota - Review of earlier statewide efforts - IoH bridge evaluation of pilot counties - Overview of State Aid vision and potential next steps Final Deliverables: Managing modern agricultural loads on local bridges (Guidebook #2026RIC04) Related Materials: Related Research:
